Great interest in the series of workshops exceeds all expectations

As the leading supplier of explosion-protection products, systems and services, R. STAHL has had decades of experience. In Asia, however, the responsible persons in potentially explosive areas often do not have up-to-date information on explosion-protection standards, practical knowledge regarding the actual implementation of guidelines, or even basic knowledge. The safety level is correspondingly low. Dangerous accidents – often with disastrous results – are a daily occurrence. The explosion-protection experts at R. STAHL are aware of these dangers. For this reason, experienced members of the company’s staff travelled to South-East Asia and conducted training sessions on the subject of “Explosion protection for process automation systems”.

The first stop for André Fritsch, Senior Product Manager Remote I/O & Fieldbus, and HMI Sales Manager, Alain Schellings, was the metropole Bangkok, the commercial centre of Thailand. Just under 100 participants from renowned engineering companies and control system manufacturers such as Yokogawa, Emerson, etc., followed what the speakers had to say with great interest. The topics addressed were the principles of and innovations in the areas of explosion protection, HMI, remote I/O and fieldbus technology. The program also included many questions and intensive discussions. “It was clear that, although the participants deal with the new systems, the correct application of explosion protection measures and the interpretation and implementation of standards and regulations lead to great uncertainty“, was Fritsch’s comment on the intense interest shown by the participants. Further proof of the positive way in which
R. STAHL’s expertise is judged is the special invitation of a well-known control system manufacturer to hold more in-house workshops in Thailand.

The participants in Rayong, south-east of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand, also showed great interest. Numerous petrochemical companies, such as Lanxess, BASF, Shell, etc., have established themselves in this area. This was reflected in the circle of participants. On two days, again more than 100 responsible persons, predominantly from the petrochemical branch, were given training. Here too, system solutions and customer-specific applications from
R. STAHL met with much interest.

In neighbouring Malaysia, the R. STAHL experts went to the town of Miri, one of the most important oil-producing towns in the country. The series of training sessions were centred around the principles of field buses, as well as operating and monitoring systems in potentially explosive areas. The mixed circle of participants comprising of planners, control system manufacturers and end users, discussed, above all, special system solutions based on combinations of fieldbus, remote I/O and HMI products. Consequently, this workshop series was also greeted with much enthusiasm by the participants and will be continued in the near future.

The workshops were organized and promoted by the R. STAHL subsidiary in Singapore and agencies of the company in Thailand and Malaysia.
