Further decline of turnover and earnings expected during the second half of 2009

R. STAHL decides on further measures to improve cost optimization

Waldenburg, 24 September 2009 - Order intake, turnover and earnings of R. STAHL group further declined during the third quarter of 2009. So the statement of our Management Board, regularly communicated since end of 2008, that cyclical fluctuations will catch up with R. STAHL with a time delay of about 10 months is confirmed. Now the effects of the global economic crisis hit the company that is focused on explosion protection.

R. STAHL pursues the objective to keep the key workforce during the crisis. To achieve this aim the management decided to implement the next step of measures for cost reduction that have been decided upon at an early stage. These measures include among other things a reduction of working time and possibly short-time work. The programs for cost optimization that have already been introduced at the end of 2008 start to take hold. But their effect can only partly cushion the market downturn as pricing pressure still increases as well.

Due to the increasingly difficult economic conditions the Managing Board expects for the second half of 2009 that turnover and EBT will remain significantly lower than they have been during the first six months. With the measures that have been introduced we want to avoid losses throughout the group during the second half of the year.
