Wide screens, wide range of connection options

R. STAHL's T-series HMI
systems are fitted with highly
luminous widescreen displays using
energy-efficient LED backlights

The wide range of communication options that R. STAHL's customers have come to expect from their many HMI systems has now also been implemented for the most recent T-series widescreen devices. The 22’’ and 24’’ operator interfaces, which have been on the market for about a year, are now also available with built-in TCP/IP connectivity on request. While conventional client-host connections do remain an option, this feature enables the devices to be used as flexible Thin Clients with TCP/IP connections to servers in the safe area. Such front ends in the field mean that less HMI equipment is required in a plant, which in turn saves hardware purchasing and maintenance expenses. T-series HMIs use the RDP or VNC protocol for Thin Client communication with host computers directly over an Ethernet connection. Legacy solutions, i.e. connections via a KVM box within a KVM-over-IP setup, remain available as well. Up-to-date digital interfaces (DVI, USB) are supported in all cases. Consequently, a wide range of monitoring and operating options are available, including classic one-on-one allocation between hazardous area stations and PCs in the safe area, access from one single Remote HMI to alternating servers, or a set-up of multi-monitor field stations.

Screen dialogues enable users to easily set up the field HMI. Without any software driver on the host PC, T-series systems already provide full touch screen functionality including all input options when the log-in screen comes up. The T-EX versions are certified for installation in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22, whereas the T-IND versions are intended for installation in safe areas. They have been developed for process automation applications and are designed for rough ambient conditions, since they can withstand ambient temperature extremes ranging from -30°C to +50°C and feature IP66 ingress protection. In addition, they fulfil all requirements for applications in clean rooms according to GMP. With the introduction of these new versions with TCP/IP support, R. STAHL's portfolio of operating and monitoring solutions featuring Thin Client capability encompasses a wide variety ranging from 15" or 19" devices in 4:3 or 5:4 format to devices with 24" widescreen displays with Full HD resolution.
